Blog Layout and banner (ohh and colours)

    http://blog.rlemon.com/

    Edit:

ok so people liked the colours once i changed the background - here is a little content and a new banner. please tell me what you think.

    OK!
    colour scheme is horrible

    i need new colours

source should be clean and easily edited

I would like to keep the majority of the site green however i'm open to new colours as well (i like orange, blue, green and yellow on websites -- as well as shades*grey, black, white, ect)

Please look over the layout (realizing this will eventually become a blog) and suggest some new colours? *hex colour code*

    thanks!

You know, the shade of green is a bit bright for that header, maybe #777 - #999 would work there instead, but I otherwsie love the colors

yea sorry i forgot to update - a friend told me to change the bg to dark grey and it would just all work as is - so i did -

origionally was #444444 and i liked it like that - however he suggested #333333

    so i put that instead.

now if your asking why i would jump on his suggestion? he is a graphic artist. can't code - but makes some killer graphics and artwork.

however i will let you all decide - look back soon for quick switch button (temp button for suggestion purposes)

There's one thing that really annoys me about this layout, and that's the vertical dotted border isn't centred with the white vertical border above it.

    yea it's bugging me too.

i have to take the time and replace all the borders with images.
then i can have the line centered.

problem is: one is a border on a cell - other is an image.

I see, you repeat a dot horizontally. Why don't you use for the content blocks:
    Code:
    border-bottom: 1px dotted #000000;
You can do the same for the dotted line at the left side.
Try it, maybe you like it, if not, too bad.

less code to just use an image with a single pixle whitespace top/bottom then creating a single pixle cell and spanning it above and below the border

All in all I like the look of it. A few little things that you may or may not want to try out.

    1) Maybe a simple style Switcher to make the font size larger. I'm actually mentioning this because the text (*sigh) is a little small for me (suddenly feeling my age sneak up on me ) Granted I can manually adjust the font size but it might be a nice touch to make an easy 1-click option for us fogies.

    2) On the dotted lines. I think even if you align them with the white space they will still seem out of place. Maybe instead make the sidebar the same green as the top navigation and footer then align it the same way leaving that white space around it. That will still block everything off and look a little more consistent. You'll need to change your arrow graphics probally to white though. Worth a shotto try and see what it looks like.

    3) on the footer links. Maybe drop the horizontal seperator you have and just space the links out more. Like you have dopne in the top navigation. The seperator is real faint and at first glance it looks like they are there and then not so much.
Stop making things so hard on yourself.

I quite like it, the only thing that isn't working for me is the quite spaced out links to the left and the lack of padding on most of the horizontal link bars... I think maybe I would either add a few pixels padding to the horizontal navigation bars, or reduce the padding on the left navigation.

    I like the colours though

Slightly off topic but how do you get your links with the question mark after the slash? ie. http://blog.rlemon.com/?orderby=oldest

I mean, I know it's PHP (most proabably), but is that just referencing to an index.php file, but the file name is left out?

Yeah its exactly that. When you just put the question mark it will just go for the index file in the directory, so in this case, most likley index.php. The querystring is separate to the path of the file, so you can construct links like this and they should work fine, just make sure you have the right index page set.
