    Review My Domain?

Hello everyone, I would be very grateful if anyone would review my domain!

    http://www.mallorymaloney.com/

It is a personal site and blog. There is some things for visitors, such as Free Graphics for other people's sites, some things to read, and helpful links.

One thing ... My site is meant to be viewed in Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher ... With a resolution of 800 x 600.

It does not work in other browsers to my knowledge, I haven't tested myself, but I've gotten quite a few of snide comments about it.

And if you use a higher resolution, my site will appear small, and hard to read. A lower resolution ... I'm not sure.

But anyway, with these things in mind, I'd love to hear your comments!

Ya, it doesn't work properly in Firefox @ 1600x1200

CSS is a better choice for layout. Your code is a huge mess, no wonder it doesn't work in other browsers

In terms of design, it looks quite nice. However I think it would look better if it was centered, rather than sloping off to the site that it is at my res.

Well, you should try to make it work in all browsers and resolutions...

    Should it be that small?

CSS and acessibility is becoming increasingly important - your code is a total mess, lol.

    Hey, thanks, guys.

Weazel, I do use CSS ... Or do you mean external CSS stylesheets? Oh, and when you say a total mess ... Can you give me an example? ((I thought it was quite tidy ...))

And Ranger, nope, it should not be that small, unfortunately. Sorry about this. I could try to make my site look good in other resulotions, I suppose, but it would be sort of tricky.

I don't know about other browsers, that would be next to impossible for me, because I only use Microsoft Internet Explorer, I don't want to risk downloading any other browsers to test ... Plus I am not sure how to fix the coding so it appears properly in all browsers, anyway.

Why is it a risk downloading another browser? Why not download one so you then have a more secure browser?

I have heard FireFux, for example, ((At least I think it was FireFux,))Is nearly impossible to uninstall, and I have heard that some download spyware onto your system, things like that.

Doesn't sound very secure to me.

    Erm...

    1) No DTD
    2) No character encoding
    3) no <body></body> tags on main page (not splash page)
    etc...

Also your splash page doesn't even use tables..well I think <hr> is a table element, but there is a lot missing from the code of that page.

Also you are using CSS to a certain extent, however your whole sites layout isn't powered via CSS, and you have several different CSS declearations in your page, you only need one with all your style info in it

Well, you better have your security settings in IE turned up pretty high if your gonna take that attitude. And it's also less likely to download spyware than IE...

Also, Tim Berners-Lee, creator of the HTTP, and more or less the internet, has said that your site shouldn't require any specific browser or resolution. You should be able to view it in Internet Explorer 1 - 6, Netscape 1 - 7, Mozilla, Camino, Firefox, Safari, Lynx, and whatever other browsers you can name, and get the same content.

Firefox is immune to BHOs like extra toolbars apart from extensions to it etc....

In terms of firefox being "impossible to uninstall", that's nonsense - I've successfully uninstalled Firefox before now, no problem

Cross browser compatibility - well, sites are *supposed* to be cross browser compliant, but many aren't

I try to make cross-browzer compatability, but seeing as my site is so hard to do that without having 2 million stylesheets, I just code to IE and Firefox. That is the majority anyway.

Not too bad for a 15 year old

I've got one stylesheet etc and just previewed it in Firefox and to my amazement, it looked the same in IE, safari, opera and KMeleon without any previous testing

My splash page is not supposed to be using tables, heh. It's just plain ol' text and <hr> properties.

But thanks, that was helpful. ^^

IE is a lot more secure then you think, and my security settings are fine, thank you. ^_^

Yeah, I know what Tim has said. I could easily make my site look exactly the same in all browsers, yes. But it would also just be a blank white background and default text, like this. o_o

The main part about my site is the design, not the coding and browser compatibility. ^_~

I try to make cross-browzer compatability, but seeing as my site is so hard to do that without having 2 million stylesheets, I just code to IE and Firefox. That is the majority anyway.
My point exactly; I just leave out FireFux. n_n

And are you aware that the pages dont open in teh iframe?
They open in 'teh', ((15 7h4t 1337 5p34k?)) iFrame in my browser. Let me guess, you're using Netscape 1 and Windows 4.0? xD! That's very retro.

Okay, anyway, thanks for all the advice. I'll take it all into consideration, including the snide comments. o.0

By the way, don't post any more reviews or adivce unless it's about my site's design or content.

Like I said, I could care less about invalid coding or browser compatibility.

    Thank you. ^^

"Teh" was an accident, I don't pay much attention to my typing most of the time.

No, I'm using FireFox 1.0.4. and Windows XP.

Then no one is gonna wanna visit a buggy site that only works in IE

    In your code...change this
    Code:
    <IFRAME name="navigation" style="left: 100; width: 175; position: absolute; top: 230; height: 500; border: 8px dashed #8E6C75;" frameborder="0" class="div" target="updatesblog" src="navigation.html">

    <IFRAME name="updatesblog" style="left: 300; width: 365; position: absolute; top: 230; height: 500; border: 8px dashed #8E6C75;" frameborder="0" class="div" src="updatesblog.html">
    To this
    Code:
    <IFRAME name="navigation" style="left: 100; width: 175; position: absolute; top: 230; height: 500; border: 8px dashed #8E6C75;" frameborder="0" class="div" target="updatesblog" src="navigation.html"></iframe>
