    Layout Review

    OK - I'm involved in sort of a 2 person coloring contest, to design a layout. It seems I'm lacking somthing to give it a truly proffesional apeal. Any feedback on this layout is greatly apreciated.

    I'm not artist but I will say that it will be easy when the time comes to turn it from an image to an xhtml/css layout.

    But one thing that does strike me is that there is a lot of wasted white space between the two boxes and the bottom next.

    it looks great... still not centered however Do you plan to make rollovers? Just one negative critic: this is very personnal but I don't like drop shadows under buttons. why? because it doesn't make professionnal. It seems like coming straight out of a photoshop example book in my mind when I see some of them. But if you get rid of them you're gonna face the terrible question: "how will I render the illusion of space on my pages"?

    Looks good so far. I agree with the centering of the page. It would look a damn sight better live I'm sure.

    Text under the logo should be a slightly smaller font. It clashes. Typo Hierarchy.

    Is that computer image from animation factory?!! I've seen it somewhere before. Might be better off changing that unless you were the one that created it.

    Looking good.

    Drop shadows = lack in proffesionality if not done properly.

    It has been mentioned before, but you have quite a bit of wasted/white space. While the colors may be of a complimentary pallet, they do tend to blend in together in a bit of a bland way. Also, you are designing that at a resolution of 800x600, which is wrong. the browser window is rarely ever going to be 800x600 pixels exactly. You need to take into account scrollbar, statusbar, toolbars, etc. And then these dimensions are vastly different depending on browser type/version and OS. You need to take it down a bit...design for a maximum width of 744px, and if you want no vertical scrolling, try for 410px height. (more detail here)

    You may want to consider adding in some human graphics relating to telco, just to spash up the color a bit (and since your hex images have little to do with the site or service, they aren't even referenced in the logo, you may want to consider either removing it and replacing it with better image--preferably stock photos--or tie it in with the logo somewhere)... Other than that, there isn't much wrong with it, just some items that could be improved upon. It is an OK base, but you should go beyond what you have...

    Thanks again for the feedback. I have moved away from the design of this site and am more intrested in the validation of my coding. I tried validating it through the XHTML validator at w3c but it gives me an error. What am I missing? What is wrong or could be better? This is my first attempt at making a valid xhtml doc.

    Thanks Again,

    Put this tag in your <head> section.
    Code:
    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1" />
    I made the attached file a while back and it serves as a very useful copy-and-paste reference. Download it if you want.

    Nah... I like the nav like it is but consider bringing the lone two links down into the main nav.

    Oh, and a more natural drop shadow is down to the right. You may want to change this. It'll probably look okay either way, though.
