Please review my retro movie blog

For the relaunch of my nostalgic movie site, I have made some layout and content changes and would like your opinion. We tend to lean towards geeky genres such as action, adventure, fantasy, horror, and sci-fi. I describe CineWeekly as "The digital movie magazine with retro reviews and articles on the best movies. No news or gossip, just great insight and discussions."

Note: My previous review thread must have been phased out over time which is why I'm starting a new one. I first launched my site at the beginning of the year but due to serious family issues I had to put it on hold.

You have quite a few coding errors: http://validator.w3.org/check?charse...ineweekly.com/

No,no,no,no,no. Not another validation thread. 90% of the errors are due to Amazon's Affiliate links. I'm not concerned with the coding aspects, it works great for me. I'm interested in overall site review, content, subject matter, format, etc.

OK, ignoring the errors (many of which appear to be your own, not Amazon related) and getting on with personal opinion:

I don't like white on black. I find it hard to read.

I don't like things changing colors when I move my mouse around.

There are numerous images that do not load. Why not?

I don't like that the page "reloaded" (but to drastically different content) while I was trying to look at it.

Why are you taking jabs at me instead of reviewing?

Be specific about what images aren't loading and all of that because it works fine for me on every major browser. Which of the following are you using: browser / version, operating system, specific page? No one else has had any errors. What's happening when you say it's reloading to drastically different content? All my images load fine.

I have no interest in taking jabs at anyone. And I have no opinions about you personally; they're about your site.

Different people have different likes and dislikes, and there will always be someone who dislikes the current object of discussion. That's why I start with facts like coding errors before going to opinions.

I gave personal opinions about background/foreground colors and unexpected color changes on mouse movement. These are just my own opinions and not meant to offend you. You asked, so I answered.

I visited the specific page that your link pointed to at http://www.cineweekly.com/. I was using Opera 10.10 on a Windows 98 system.

On my earlier visit, the small images for Night Ranger and Tomahawk on the right of the middle column did not load. Also there were some empty boxes along the right edge. They seem to be working, now.

You said that no one else has had any errors, but I don't see anyone else posting anything in this thread. Maybe no one else is looking.

I was looking at a set of articles down the middle of the page when it suddenly switched to a single item.

I was only referring to the comment that I quoted, not your opinion about color schemes. And I have submitted similar threads to other forums and that's where no one had problems. Also, I had a previous thread on here using this same code and no one here had problems.

I have no doubt that any problems are coming from the fact that you're using Windows 98. That's uh... 13 years old. I don't code for that far back. I'm interested in reviews of the site content. Do movie lovers enjoy the idea of my site and my implementation? If not why? What features would make it better?

Not a bad site really, but I'd probably make the orange a bit darker on the featured articles when you mouseover, it's a bit too bright for me.

Thanks, I might play around with it some more. When used on title headings it isn't so bright. What do you think about the yellow links?

I like the logo and the hoverover links. I'd start a newsletter and put that optin box above the fold. Maybe test a 2 column layout to a 3 column layout to see what converts the best.

I've never played around with newsletters (or even signed up for any) but it would be something I'd like to look into when I get more help on the site. I do all the coding and write a lot but only have a couple of other writers that do one article a week each. I remember back when I first started on this project (a year ago this month) the hoverover buttons were somewhat of an invention in markup on my part haha. I'm proud of them.

I like the design of your site
I prefer dark designs, everything that is to bright (like this forum for example ) causes headaches for me when I stay too long.

I would definitely agree that you should add a newsletter. It's not hard at all, providers like icontact, aweber or getresponse make it easy. I think getresponse even offers a free solution.

I like this site. It's easy to navigate and the posts are well written. I do however agree that the orange when you hover over the feature articles is a bit bright compared to the darkness of the rest of the page.

Thanks, I haven't played around with darkening the orange a little yet. I'll be adding a newsletter soon as suggested earlier as well.
