    Please, review my first website

    Hello!

This is my first website ever made:

    noartistname.com

Would you be so kind to review it? I've been doing it for about 2 weeks. I didn't use any templates - all design was made by me and I was trying to make minimal website. I've only used jQuery for slider effect and Vanilla with Texpattern for forum and blog (that doesn't have to do anything with main website).

I'm also trying to develop easy-series forum, blog and other web stuff, if you're interested to help me with it, I'll appreciate it. I'm also looking forward to make freelancer's community in future. Drop me a line.

    Thanks in advance,
    Aleks.

The background hover color in the menu overlays the other menu items' text (firefox 3.5). I'm not sure if that's intentional, as it doesn't really hurt anything, but to me it looks like a mistake.

The blog link in the menu should just take you to the blog-- there's no need to tell us on a separate page about why we're not looking at the blog after clicking the blog link.

Also you may want to consider removing the donate page until your website is of notable value (no offense).

I like the paging effect and (to my surprise) the fact that it works with scripting disabled.

The paging should use arrows instead of blocks: I didn't understand what they were for till I thought it was a mistake. I don't see what you're seeing, Fumi o.O

The slide effect surely does not work with JS disabled.

You mean the menu thing? I attached a screenshot of the overlap that's bugging me. The black hover background is overlapping the word "Board".

correct but, it is still equally easy to see each of the pages in the site. I should have been clear. The paging effect is good (I like it) and even with scripting disabled, the same action is required to access your pages.

The menu thing may be fixed because I don't get the problem in ff 3.5.1

    Hi!

Thanks for your feedback! I don't have that problem with menu as well (I've tried using latest FF on both Mac and PC), but that probably can be fixed by adding little margin or padding effect - I'll do that anyway to keep menu more clear. Squares for navigation will be replaced with arrows (I just wanted to use only two images on page) and probably I'll give more space to content. BTW, my main attention was payed to "what if JS will be disabled?", so I used <noscript> tag to make my website work properly even if JS is disabled.

    Regards,
    Aleks.

I agree, arrows would be a lot more intuitive.

I agree with Apostropartheid, also. Blocks could be mistaken for decoration (although, Im not sure how blocks could be classed as decor).

Also, your pages 'carousel' doesn't work on Safari 4. It simply just rotates around a lot at the beginning. Occasionally, it will stop at the page, but, in my opinion, it is too slow.

On the actual design, simple is good. On the other hand, I have no idea what that rather large dot in the centre of the page is doing there.

    Regards

I don't like how your contact form opens a new window saying its submitted or if there any errors. To fit in with the rest of your pages why not make a thank you page that slides into view when the form is submitted. I think you should display any errors on the same part as the form rather than a new window. In your code you have an h4 that simply serves as an anchor but that h4 is above an h1. I don't think it should be that way simply speaking its not semantic. H1 has a greater weight than an h4.

Your site is amazing and artistic keep it up , you could have little bit better by choosing different color than black. The concept of design is very good.

Thanks. Yes, color scheme is a bit weird, I'll work on it for next versions. Few bugs have been fixed with contact form as well, didn't notice them on localhost.
