Remember that what I say is all constructive criticism and I hope your site does well.

Your XHTML markup is not valid.
I can't validate your CSS now because the CSS Validator is down.
I'll take into account that you are still in development of this site, and you obviously will be thinking of fixing this at the end. Or at least I'm hoping you are.

When I first hit your site, there is nothing that excites me. Nothing that keeps me there. It's cold and lifeless. Your header looks amateurish and unprofessional, and doesn't portray a message. A good logo will tell you exactly what the site is about in a small image. It all has to be relevant.
Here's a logo that looks professional, but would be incredibly easy to make. Getting rid of the whole banner, and replacing it with a logo and maybe some other content might be a good idea.

Next is your menu. There's not much to say. It's plain text and nothing stands out. Again it's lifeless and cold. An image orientated menu with nice hover effects really makes sites easy and more fun to navigate. That's something you need to look into.

To your content now. Again there's not much to say. It's plain text and quite boring. You could spice it up with colors, images and bigger headings. For example, at the "top rated" bit at the bottom of your home page, at a glance it looks like some ads. You have to properly read it to understand that they are the top rated shops. Nowadays all of the big companies will have something to attract your attention towards that. If they look like ads, people will ignore them.

(When the CSS validator is working I'll do that)
Edit: Better than my first site

FYI, the CSS result can be found at this URI when it's back up.

    Cheers Millenia,

lots of food for thought there, all of it i agree with
i will be validating my site once it it finished.
the home page isnt finished but i am planning on putting some of the top offers on there (but with a bit of spice to it lol)
a company logo is something i would definatly be looking into once the main site is more or less finished, again with the menu that can and if my skills allow will be updated to something a little more eye catching.

i really appreciate you taking time to go over my site, i relise that there is a lot of work to do on it but i will get there one day

    cheers

You really want to validate it AS you develop the page.

Sometimes a non-valid page is OK. For example, when I build a jsp using struts, closing tags go missing. They are there on the souce, it's struts that eats them. Other than not validating, it works fine so I leave it. The key is to know when it's not really a problem and when it might be.

But I still validate on a regular basis as I write pages. You never know when a bug will pop up.

Post them in the HTML & CSS forums: someone will be glad to help. Sometimes the error is quite obscure and the validator isn't exactly user friendly.

yeah i will do, but i think some of the errors are caused by some urls that i am linking to???

    for example
    Code:
Line 38, column 514: reference to external entity in attribute value
    …go'><a href = "stores.php?Cat=ent&sID=Swoopo"><img src='logos/swoopo.gif' alt
not sure why there is a problem with that??? but its causing around 12 errors

but never mind i will post it all on the relivant pages when i get around to it

can anyone recommend a decent graphics software for designing logos? or any tips on how to design logos as my graphical skill are basic (as you can see by the site )
    cheers

Ah yes, the "&" should be changed to "&amp;" in any href or src attributes, I believe.

No advice on the graphics software though, sorry!

    It's usually a good idea to start out with this at the VERY TOP of your CSS: * {border:0;margin:0;padding:0;}
Seek and you shall find... basically:
validate your markup | view your page cross-browser/cross-platform | free web tutorials | free hosting

I looked at it and here is my feedback as an non-technical user:

More personal. People want to feel through your words, that you are mutually conversing. Let me give you an idea of what I mean:

    "Welcome to Kernow Connect
Kernow Connetc, your premier online shopping experience, is dedicated to helping you maxiimize your on-line shopping experience. You will find the 10p best finds, new releases and discounts personally chosen to bring you the best, save you time, provide quality, and of course great savings. "

You may differ in the terminology, but it must be exciting.
Also consider making the font size a little larger.
The color also for me is cold. Try adding a complimentary color that will pop.

I would also suggest asking for another review, once you've gotten more content or the links are active.
