    Smile work-in-progress site review

    hi all,

i know i'm not finished, but i was wondering if i could get a what-i-have-so-far for the site i'm designing for my first client.

    the site is here: http://www.allisonwrote.com/aussie/index.html

mostly what i need to do is add more images, as well as complete the header.

    some things:

-i know the header links to my personal site . this will change, though i bet i'd get a lot of new visitors!

-the logo/font was theirs from the start, and they're keeping it. it's a bit too close to comic sans for my tastes.

-i haven't checked for css validity yet, but i try to code in semantically correct ways. when i'm finished with the site, i will go back and make sure it validates.

    thanks!

In Firefox, your menu wraps to a second line, pushing your content div to the right about 100px.

Also, there are some errors in your current markup, http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=ht...Inline&group=0

My first impression is... not bad!

I like the color scheme, and the logo at the top.

Your source code looks pretty clean... and Y!Slow (a Firefox plugin) gives your site a grade of "B", which is pretty good.

You site also renders perfectly in IE7, Firefox, Opera, and Safari (windows)... which is refreshing to see. A lot of sites submitted on these boards don't check against more than IE and Firefox. I don't know if you did that or not, but you get kudos from me.

    Some things to consider:
    - can you fade between images on your slideshow? That would be cool!
    - you may want flyover menus on your top-nav. they're not necessary,
but they'll add a hint of complexity to the site.
    - the mouseover color on your top-nav isn't my favorite... maybe use a yellow or that
    gold in the logo

nice but I have just one suggestion.

instead of putting the email address in the pages and also, having the contact button opening the users default email program (yeuch) you should have an online form.

Less spam to your client and a more professional interface for their customers.

aside from that I like it.

about validation, it's a matter of habits and help you fix less bugs:
    - script element don't have language attribute
    - don't use upper case letter in element and attribute names, attributes value can be how you like.
    - empty elements, img, meta, link, etc. must end in />

you must minimise the picture size, short loading time increase the visitor retantion time.

you allready have a navigation, you can remove the link from the header, is useless and to many link is anti-seo

I like the idea with phone and mail from the right of the header, on contact page you probably must have a form, as bazz suggest

    regards

Thanks so much for everyone's advice! I agree about the contact form. I hate redundancy but I wanted to make sure there were as many ways to contact easily seen as possible - the form page sounds like the perfect solution.

I'm going to make all the necessary fixes! Again, thanks all.
