Personal site - please comment on the design

    Hi!

I have finally decided to quit my "public" flightsim site, simply too much work and too few users. So, that's why I decided to start my own personal one.

But before I go on with it, I would like to hear your comment on the design and banner? Does it fit? How is the loading time? Is the meny easy to use?

As of now it's only the mainpage and the multimedia --> wallpapers (NOW optimized ) which work, but I'll sort that out later. As I said, it's the design and navigation that matters right now.

    Thanks!

Banner is okay but I would make the plane stand out a little more.

I think you should have some type of background image. The white background doesn't seem to fit the design. Maybe something dark and repeating might be good.

I think you are right about the background, Aero. I have now added one, maybe that fits better?

No. Try maybe a black and a dark gray background image.

whitespace (or in this case I guess black space).

give your text some room to breathe. add some line height. toss on some padding on the sides. move your body text down of the navigation. basically open it up some.

your nav needs something as well. on hover the black on black isn't doing anything to differentiate the drop downs. maybe make the nav orange to tie it in and at least give the drop downs some border or color to make them stand out some.

    basically space and contrast.

    Thanks for your inputs.

I've now added a black background with a little "watermark" behind the page content. I think it fits good.

I could barely see the watermark. I think making the watermark repeat on the whole background might do it.

You need a light colored border around the part of your menu that appears when you mouseover it. That will make it more distinguished - it almost looks like part of the main text of the page as it is. Also, you need a bigger font, to make it easier to read.

The new one looks way better than the first one. I can hardly see any watermark in your main content.

When I hover the dropdowns in mozilla, it has more padding (right) than the unhovered one, which is not a reasonable way to make a stylish dropdown hover.

Not much of a comment - that's all I have.

@ Aerospace: I tried to make the background image repeating, but that made the site too confusing and disturbed your view.

@ Binaryweapon: Thanks for your insight. I have tried with borders around the menus, however I think it's enough that the background-color changes when you hover on it

@ nolvorite: Ahh, thanks for noticing that, I didn't until you told me. Now corrected.

I didn't even know you had drop downs. I suggest you get the drop downs working without relying on javascript. For IE6 you can but browsers that understand li:hover you should use CSS and not javascript.

Your really only supposed to use the "valid" badges if the website is actually valid...
    http://jigsaw.w3.org/css-validator/v...W%2Findex.html

The design looks nice, and I agree that the menu should be css.
The contact menu item doesn't need to drop down(unless you plan to add more links there). Just make it like the "home" link.

@ Aerospace: Hehe, then you found out now I think it's a pretty good idea with a CSS based menu instead, but would I then be able to archieve the same result? And do you have a link for a good tut on the subject?

@ GO ILLINI: The reason why it says that it isn't valid is because of some opacity settings. If you view my main stylesheet: LINK it's as valid as it can be. I have put all the "unvalid" properties in another stylesheet.

Good suggestion on the contact menu.
