    New Site needs review

I just finished this site and I need someone to review it. www.chattennis.com
Any design advice to make it look more professional or better would be much appreciated and please be brutally honest.

Brutally honest eh? You sure you can take "brutally honest"? I'd have just been honest.... but now...

-Change your background colour.... it is really bright and it makes it hard to view your logo.
-Your "your ad here" thing is messed up in FF 2.... it is covering the left hand side of your news articles.
-Your dividers in your navigation are too thick. They would look better if they were just like 1-2px wide rather than like 3-4.

Now... how to make it more professional:

-Drop the bubbly writing in the header... professionals use clean cut neat and modern writing.
-Change the colour scheme... it doesn't really fit tennis at all... try maybe a darker blue background with a lighter foreground.

Check out this site, they have a nice clean cut design and they are to-do with tennis also.

    But generally a good job!

    Hello phpnewb,
It looks good at 1285px and wider.
It starts moving things around a bit under that. Doesn't really look bad till you get down to 932px or so, where your top menu starts getting out of its blue container.
    That's the problem with percentages.

    1. I think the page would work better if the left and right columns were set and the center column was the only one fluid.

    2. Use a min-width to make sure your content never gets squeezed to tightly.

    3. Then, If you swap the ads and the login, at smaller resolutions the user could see all the important parts of the page and scroll over to see the ads.

    4. Lastly, this is just a personal preference, I think the font in #main-center is way too big.

    - - one last problem I just noticed: At those wider resolutions, in your header, the #links and the logo run into each other and the top left rounded corner is moved to make room.
Validate often DURING development - Use it like a splelchecker | Debug during Development |Write it for FireFox, ignore IE
Use the right DocType | Validate your markup | Validate your CSS | Why validating is good | Why tables are bad

You really don't need tables for the navigation.

Small suggestion.... add this in your <head> section:

    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8">
"write it for FireFox then hack it for IE."

The menu seems to look the way you want it to in 1024x768, but any smaller or bigger than that and the menu starts doing weird things.

Your logo looks okay, but the graphic for "Chattennis.com" looks very early 90's. Better to look into good typography.

all of the fonts are similar (tahoma style) exept the login form which is Times Roman (or simmilar) and this looks out of place, i would change his to Tahoma (or whatever main body is)

for that to have a point the documents would have to be saved as unicode encoded, and the server configured to send it like that.

And it's help with validation... most use utf-8 or iso(bunchofnumbers) so choosing any character type is a good idea.
