    mail function issue

    Hi,
    I don't know if that's relevant to my problem but I am using phpdev. I am trying to send a simple email using the mail function. I am doing my tests from the localhost. Here is the php code:
    PHP Code:
    <?php
    $address
    'eijikel@yourmusicforums.com';
    $subject 'test';
    $message 'test message';

    mail($address$subject$message);
    ?>
    and here is the settings of my php.ini file:
    [mail function]
    ; For Win32 only.
    SMTP = smtp.mydomain.com

    ; For Win32 only.
    sendmail_from = me@mydomain.com
    I have obviously replaced 'mydomain' by the accurate domain name.

    What did I miss?

    thanks in advance

    oh btw... I always get that error message (as you might have expected):

    Warning: Failed to connect to mailserver, verify your "SMTP" setting in php.ini

    ISP = Internet Service Provider...

    Usually a company such as:

    Sasktel
    Telus
    Rogers AT&T
    Bell
    Sympatico
    etc...
    Dawson Irvine

    Since your talking about ISP's
    I use PhpDev.

    Would any of you would happen to know if sympatico blocks port 80 or something of the kind so outside traffic can't see the website.

    I would like to know if there's any way to fix it also.

    Thanks,
    Simon
