    PHP Calling System

I'm wondering if it's possible to have people call a 800 number, enter a three digit number, and then another individual to use the PHP script to see who called and which number they entered.

I've been working with PHP for years, but recently I had a client contact me with this request and I'm not sure how this would work.

I think it would require some hardware, like an Arduino and FlyPort to
detect DTMF tones and send them to a web server somewhere online.
Probably expensive and complicated to accomplish.

Maybe it would be easier to use SMS, where they send a text message?
But that would not be a 1-800 number.

There is hardware that you can buy where you call your house and control
things with DTMF dial tones, but you need some sort of caller ID and a way
    to get the tones online.
