    Internet Explorer My website's menu/list codes in PHP appear to be broken

    Hi guys,

    I can read code and do very basic editing. My main line of profession is Network Management and Hardware.

    A band has recently asked for my voluntary assistance to help them fix their website. The guy who made the site no longer wants anything to do with it, but he has kindly specified the section of the code that is broken.

    The website I am talking about is www.hnvpb.com
    It looks pixel perfect in firefox 10.0.2 (Win XP home SP3). But the roll over menu's have red x's next to them in IE8.
    The "Sponsors" page (under "About") is also showing raw code in IE8.

    I have looked at the code specified but i can't see how this would have anything to do with the broken menus... Can you guy please take a quick look and point me in the right direction? Thanks.

    Code:
    <div class="box">
    	<h2>Latest News</h2>
    	<ul class="newslist">

    		<li><span class="small">April 8, 2011</span><br /><strong>Hawkesbury Nepean Valley Pipe Band Major Raffle 2011</strong><br /><br />
    		<span class="small">
    			<strong>1st Prize</strong>: Holiday for 2 to Hong Kong<br />
    			<strong>2nd Prize</strong>: Charm Bracelet with Charms<br />
    			<strong>3rd Prize</strong>: Samsung Smart Sensor Microwave<br />
    			<strong>4th Prize</strong>: Elite Gold Ladies Watch<br />
    			<strong>5th Prize</strong>: Two Gold Class Movie Vouchers
    		</span>
    		<br /><br />
    		<a href="/hnvpb-major-raffle.php">Click here for more information &raquo;</a>
    		</li>

    	</ul>
    </div><!-- end box -->

    I'm happy to provide more information if you need it. Just ask and I'll get what you need.

    Thanks everyone!

    The "X" icons on the menus are caused by images that don't exist. The browser is looking for this file: http://hnvpb.intervelopment.com.au/w...mages/down.gif, which isn't there. Looks like a "down arrow" image.

    As far as the sponsors page, it has something to do with this stuff:

    Code:
    <!--[if gte vml 1]><v:shapetype<br />
    I have no idea what all that's about. I don't know anything about WP so maybe it's related to that.

    ... and by the way, for those that don't know ...

    The answer to the 'age-old' kilt question is: socks and shoes

    Thanks KuriosJon!
    So if we simply remove the <a href="" img="http://hnvpb.intervelopment.com.au/wp-content/themes/hnvpb/images/down.gif"></a> tags from each of the dropdown menus, it should eliminate the red x issue? Or will that break the CSS layout? Do we just have to replace that image with another one of the same height/width?

    I have made contact with a web designer irl, so hopefully your info will help him identify the issue =)
    the <!--blah--> bits of code are comments, so it may just be missing the last two hyphens?
    I also have no idea about what the <v:shapetype<br /> is. The br is a line break, and doesn't need an opening tag, and the v:shapetype I'd have to look up google to find out what it does. Might be a simple tag nesting issue?
    I'll link my irl contact to this page too. He might find it helpful

    and lol @ mlseim :P

    Thanks guys!
