    Making a highscore list

I just recently began working on a flash game for a company and I'm stuck because they need a list of high scores to be displayed at the end. Here's how the game is laid out

    1) Pick a character on the html home page. Clicking that character relinks you to their specific flash game.

    2) At the flash game you play until you either lose all your lives or win the game.

I need to make a high score list on maybe an html table showing what person the player picked, then the total high scores for people who have played for that player on a highscore list against the other players. Breakdown of what I need -

Player 1 picks cody not bill. Player 1 wins the game with a score of 500 pts, bills score has 500 pts which is displayed on a high score list. Player 3 picks jan, wins the game with a score of 650 pts. I need jan to outrank cody. The reason I'm not using the players name and the people they're chosing is because it's for donating to a charity and it's nice to see which charity is winning.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

ps- no idea where to get started. I've coded a lot in dreamweaver but not so much actionscript and php!

This is a simple ORDER BY clause in the query, with potential group by and having if its an aggregate sum.
How are you storing the end results? In a database? So far all I see is HTML and flash, neither of which has anything to do with PHP.

No storing yet. I have 0 background in db's and stuff like my mySQL. That's why my post may have been a little confusing, I'm essentially very confused myself as to where I should start, and I've tried looking through tutorials but none specific to my problem.

You'd need to write a webservice or rest handler to deal with data sent to it from the flash client. I have no idea what you have to do in flash to perform this task. I'd imagine that flash is capable of a simple post so you can certainly write a PHP page in a few minutes for this. Its the flash that I haven't a clue what to do with.
Your first task should be getting flash to write said scores to a database or a file. If you choose a simple flat file, it will grow exponentially in processing time since the work then has to handle all the data provided in order to determine a high score. A DB would allow an easy sort (a filesystem approach can also be done, but take a lot of work to write a proper mtree).
PHP will be your secondary decision. The first thing to do will be to determine what the flash does, then do it for PHP. Since I have near 0 knowledge in flash, I won't bother with suggesting anything to do with PHP until you know what to do with the flash.
