Those links ("Find Friends", "Instant Message", "Games", etc.) are not buttons, those are actually images.

So you don't have to manually create all the various buttons as images you might consider taking some time to automate the process using the PHP GD Image Functions. I am not super familiar with GD, but it should produce consistent looking button images. Alternatively, instead of spending time designing buttons by hand in Fireworks or Photoshop, could you achieve the same result and save some time with some snappy CSS?

No. GD is a collection of PHP image functions. You can use it to create images dynamically. Basically you would probably need to start, or at least the easiest way to start, would be with a base image file, in .gif, .jpg or .png (GD supports other formats as well), that was in the style you wanted your buttons to be...like rounded, drop shadowed, whatever. Just the button, no text. You could then write a class or function where you inputed the text and using GD it could create a new image with the text overlayed. It would take a bit of PHP knowledge though, and sometime to figure out how the GD functions work if you are not familiar with it. You might be able to find a script out there that would do something similar but I'm not sure.

I can't guarantee this would be the fastest way to create the buttons you want, especially if you don't have any prior knowledge of it, but if you plan on doing more web design in the future it would probably be useful in the long run.

Here is the link to GD Image Functions @ php.net
