efficient methods of executing multiple queries

in a lot of my scripts, I have to reassign values to variables like:

    • $query
    • $i
    • $result
    • $numrows

so it is not uncommon for one of my scripts to query the db using those vars, run a block of code for PHP output or HTML output and then do it again 3 more times. Right now I'm still in the phase of processing one task at a time in my mind because I only know bits and pieces of PHP tools (syntax, etc...).

can any of your guys suggest what the next step in my learning process might be? In general, is there anything I can do to improve that "one thing, then the next, etc..." strategy I'm using now?

    Appreciate any replies. Thanks!
