    Open Source Alternative To Sharepoint

I am trying to work on an open source alternative to MS Sharepoint and at this stage am working on linking MS Office with the site like how you can directly edit and upload files to and from MS Sharepoint Services. Does anyone have any ideas or anywhere tht I could get information on doing this. I have tried searching Google but it doesn't look like there is anyone who has done this before.

Thanks Angst, I am reviewing the alfresco site right now for any idea on how they achieve what they do, but the osalt site isn't what i'm after as I am developing for a Linux platform, by any chance would you happen to know of any PHP libraries or similar for me to be able to investigate, thanks.

After a further review I have found that my best bet would probably be to use WebDAV as most modern word processors and office document programs such as MS Office, and OpenOffice support the WebDAV protocol and it can be used to do precisely this. In the next coupld of weeks i'll be activating this project on my site with descriptions of all of the sub projects including this implementation using WebDAV so if anyone is interested check in on my website www.hyperinterworks.com and check out the project details and progressing development stages. I plan on publishing a series of code libraries for free which does something like this as time progresses.
