    php installation

    greetings!

in the past ive used asp for all my server side stuff, but in the interests of broadening horizons im now teaching myself php. so its all new to me:
Apache installed fine on my pc initially, afterwards i tried to install php, i edited the php.ini and http.config files as per instruction but when i try http:localhost:8080 now i get 'page not found' and when i try to launch apache from the start menu now i get this error:

only one usage of each socket address (protocol/network address/port)
is normally permitted. : make_sock: could not bind to address 127.0.0.1:8080
no listening sockets available, shutting down
    Unable to open logs

Note the errors or messages above, and press the <ESC> key to exit. 27...ttttttttttt-->

any help would be much appreciated

    Thanks!!

That means that apache or another webserver/script is listening on port 8080 already , i.e apache is probably already running & you will need to restart apache for the httpd.conf changes to take effect.

ctrl-alt-delete to see if apache is running , if you can end the process do so then try again, if apache is installed as a service then go to control panel > administrative tools > services and restart apache from there.

To see if you configuration of PHP is OK - open a DOS prompt and
    cd c:\apache\bin
    apache.exe -T

(or is it -t ?) one of the pair , that will gove you a syntax check of your config.
    resistance is...

MVC is the current buzz in web application architectures. It comes from event-driven desktop application design and doesn't fit into web application design very well. But luckily nobody really knows what MVC means, so we can call our presentation layer separation mechanism MVC and move on. (Rasmus Lerdorf)
