Tool to view PHP output at each stage of script?

At the moment, in order to debug a PHP script that isn't working right, I'm painstakingly going through it printing variables and arrays each time PHP outputs something. Is there some kind of console, plug in or whatever that will show me everything that PHP is outputting during the course of running a script?

It's a long shot since it seems like it would be a huge security liability, but who knows, maybe there's an angle that I haven't though of here.

You are looking for a debugger. I just did a search of the PHP forum for "debugger" and pulled up a few

    Sweet, thanks Spookster.

Surprised Dreamweaver doesn't have one built in, but I did find an extension: http://extensions.iptsolutions.com/ (Dreamweaver 7 or higher)
