Thread: Email Auto-Responder
05-23-2005, 01:21 PM #1
I am familiar with the process of automatically sending emails (I use PHP's mail function to do this - I haven't the faintest idea how it works, I just know that it does what I want it to do!). However, I would like to incorporate an email auto-responder into my website. How does one go about doing this? I know next to nothing about this field of expertise, except for the need to have SMTP and POP3 or IMAP servers! (hence I don't really know where to look to get the information).
The kind of thing I want to build is an auto-responder that performs a give action based upon commands provided via the email's title and/or subject fields.
If the user sends an email with the title: userid=12345,command=doyourfunkyphpthing then I want the auto-responder to execute a bit of PHP in my web server's public folder which, as the command suggests, does its funky thing ... (which may be to update a database, send another email, etc - the usual PHP stuff).
Any help will be much appreciated.
