    Help with: ".htaccess/.htpasswd" files needed

    I'm not sure if this is the right section to be posting this message, but I have just joined and this is my first post here. Sorry if it is in the wrong section.

    Anyway I'm having real problems in using these type of files (htaccess and htpasswd) to password protect a certain directory on my website. My server says they surport this, and the link below will even take you to there page on my server that shows you they do suport the use of ".htaccess/.htpasswd" files as use for protection:

    But I'm having serious problems in setting them up in protecting a directory. The folder I wanted to protect is called "clan". So I put the ".htaccess" file in that folder. I then created another folder called "protected" and put the ".htpasswd" file in there. Below is the Script that I used for the ".htaccess" file:

    Redirect / http://www.blueyonder.co.uk

    ErrorDocument 403 http://error.blueyonder.co.uk/403.html
    ErrorDocument 404 http://error.blueyonder.co.uk/404.html
    ErrorDocument 500 http://error.blueyonder.co.uk/500.html

    <Directory /clan>
    AuthName "Argon Blood Clan"
    AuthType Basic
    AuthUserFile /protected/.htpasswd
    require valid-user
    </Directory>

    AddType application/msword .docRedirect /

    But I still keep getting denied access the the website page when I click the link on my website, expecting it to throw me up a Password Box. Instead I get an Error mesage page. I created both files using Notepad, then uploaded them via FTP to my server using my web browser, and there FTP address. I then changed the properties on the ".htaccess" to this "RW-R-R". I left the ".htpasswd" file untouched in it properties because I did'nt know what to set that too. I then renamed both files removing the "TXT" extension only to change them from Notepad Text files to the correct type of files without the (.txt)

    Please what am I doing wrong here.

    what is in your .htpasswd file?

    Have you generated the encrypted user: passwords for the users?
