    Question cannot connect??

I am trying to install Textpattern - after correct upload, I have entered the correct MySQL username, password, and database. It's linked to the right path - I click next during installation and get the following:
    Checking database connection…

Warning: mysql_connect(): Can't connect to MySQL server on 'localhost' (10061) in D:\hshome\simplymy\simplymysims.com\textpattern\setup\index.php on line 195

    Can’t connect to database

    What next?

did you have mysql installed and running on your system already? I'm not aware of the application you are talking about but it may be coding in the program or it may be a problem with mysql.

you might want to see if you can connect directly to mysql using the same login/password if you can then you have eliminated one source of the problem.

    Question

That's not it, I had the database setup with username and password before I tried to configure the program. I've got through the initial screen where TextPattern wants your info, but it can't connect and it gives me that Line 195 erorr. I went into the install.php - there is no Line 195! Help!!

It would be helpful if you provided a link to the home page of the application you are attempting to use so that anyone here would know for sure what you are referring to (there is undoubtedly more than one PHP script calling itself Textpattern.) Also, you can obtain the best help by visiting the support forum that was setup by the author of the application you are using.

From your error message, the code generating the error is in textpattern\setup\index.php and there is not an actual file called install.php. Line 195 of the indicated file is this -
    PHP Code:
    if (!($mylink mysql_connect($dhost,$duser,$dpass))){
From this one could guess that either the information entered was not correct or perhaps a config file was not created (permission problem) and when these values were read back, they either could not be read (permission problem) or the file did not exist. But this is about all that we can guess based on the information you have posted.
If you are learning PHP, developing PHP code, or debugging PHP code, do yourself a favor and check your web server log for errors and/or turn on full PHP error reporting in php.ini or in a .htaccess file to get PHP to help you.

All of the information I put into the setup page was correct - I've gone over and over it. What is a permission problem and how do I fix it?
Here is the home page for TextPattern: http://www.textpattern.com/
There is also a help forum here http://forum.textdrive.com/index.php - which hasn't gotten me much farther! Thanks!

Is this on a shared hosting account and is the hostname for the mysql server "localhost" or is it something else, such as "mysql.myhostingcompany.com" or "mysql.mydomain.com"?

Edit: I tracked down your hosting company, ixwebhosting.com, and the mysql server host name that you need to use can be found in your contol panel database section. It is likely that it is not "localhost" as the error message indicates you used, but something like mysql.ixwebhosting.com (which is what ixwebhosting's control panel demo shows.)

figured that out earlier - I've talked to IS at IX, they are researching the problem too! I can log into MySQL through the Control Panel with the password/login I put in to configure! I just don't get it!!

The error message in the above post has a space between the m in .com and the quote. .com ' If you copied and pasted when you filled in the form during setup, make sure that you don't have any extra characters.

After a few minutes talking with IS at my host, it turned out to be a problem on their end of the service! Happy to say, everything is installed, up and running now! Thanks for trying to help!
