how to lay out a scrolling slideshow

I need to make a slideshow that scrolls horizontally. I can take care of the scrolling part and placing the images, etc., but I was wondering if anyone has any good ideas on how to lay things out. My only thoughts so far have been:

Moving each image individually (tedious and CPU intensive).

Having 2 divs with the same set of images so when one comes to the end the other is stuck behind it and they keep getting added to the back every time the first one dissapears from view.

Does anyone have any thoughts on how I could lay these things out so that it's not too CPU intensive and preferably doesn't use huge algorithms to figure out the positions of images and such.

The moving would be done via CSS with position:relative and using the left property.
