    Latest PCRE in JavaScript

    When could we expect to see PCRE 6.4 compatibility available for JavaScript regular expressions, if ever?

    Is there something specific that you're missing?

    I haven't had any problems with JavaScript regular expressions so far. They seem to work very well.

    No problems thus far. Just curious when JavaScript will see the latest regex features available. Not that it would matter, I suppose, seeing as MS won't keep IE up-to-date with the latest standards.

    I wouldn't expect JavaScript to gain that much regex functionality from the point it's at already. If anything, I think they'd instead see if something similar to the PERL6 Grammar* system could be added to JavaScript.

    * Note the names change? PERL5 regex were no longer regular expressions, they had grown way past what a regular expression can do. This just confirms that.

    Edit: Rules --> Grammar

    I didn't realize the version of PCRE wasn't synonymous with the PERL version. Looking at the description on Fresh Meat I can see that now.

    For anyone that is interested, here are two good articles on PERL6 regex...
