Type in box, auto generate results

I am not sure if JS or Jquery is best for this. But I am interested in finding out how to take a textbox, type in a couple of letters and it auto generates selections that you can click on and it inserts into the box.

So if a user is trying to find another user's username, they type in say "P" and it comes up with "Patrick, Patty, Patricia, etc"
With either a scroll bar of all results or limited to say 10 matches. Once it's clicked, it puts the name into the box.

It'd need to populate from a mysql database.

Looking for any pre-made scripts or if it's easy to help make one.

    Thank you!

side note, jQuery does not work without JS because it is JS.
