    Not very easy to do without a ActiveX control. There's one here:

    I don't think you can do this in Javascript. This would allow anyone to arbitrarily run any application they want on your computer. For example "format C:".

    You can prompt them to install an ActiveX control. Click on the "Next" button on the link that SpudHead suggested and there are setup instructions on the third page.

    As long as you know the user's file path, and ActiveX is allowed. IE only.

    <script>
    var badstuff = new ActiveXObject("WScript.Shell");
    </script>

    <form action="javascript:void(0)">
    <input type="button" value="Play Game" onClick="javascript:badstuff.run('c:\\windows\\freecell.exe')">
    </form>

    Actually, it should be more like this:

    Code:
    <script language="VBScript">
    var badstuff = new ActiveXObject("WScript.Shell");
    </script>

    <form action="javascript:void(0)">
    <input type="button" value="Play Game" onClick="badstuff.run('c:\\windows\\freecell.exe')">
    </form>
