    how to list and read the client machile files and directories using javascript

    Hello,

    I want to list out the client machine's files and directories using javascript. Client machines may have OS as linux or window as my apllication is online.
    how to di this. Please help me.

    It's not possible to interact with client machine/files through browsers. You may need to write a standalone application to install it on their machine(with their permission)

    it should work fine if the user simply saves the page contain the script to the folder with the files, no installation needed.

    if firefox GETing a local folder path returns a space separated list of files. IE can use the FSO (file system objects) to retrieve the directory info.

    you can do it using activex on ie only... but that needs users permissions
