Using JavaScript to create screen shots

Can anyone tell me weather JavaScript is related to creating mini snap shots of webpages?

When on the Live Journal website, I noticed, that when there is a link present in someones blog/journal page, that when you hoover the mouse pointer over the link, a small snap shot of what the webpage looks like appears.

How is this created? using JavaScript? and if so what aspects of JavaScript are involved?

this is more than likely not created by javascript, but by a program on a server somewhere.

as far as i know, only firefox can create screenshots with javascript, but that functionality is restricted to add-ons only...
