I really like Flanagan's Definitive Guide. As for databases, you better look for ASP books, if you mean scripting ASP with JavaScript.

    In mastering it?

Well, if you already have a solid grip on the language, you could always buy my book. It's an 1100 page reference breaking the whole language down for ECMAScript, cross-browser JS not within the standards, and Core & HTML DOM.

Only thing I didn't get in there which could have fit was about JavaScript strict warnings, and I have an article on that at javascriptkit.com .

I have that book (that is, the O'Reilly book), and it won't help you LEARN javascript, if that's what you're looking for. It will, however, help you with a lot of other things!

I would check out these links to start with:

    http://www.javascriptkit.com
    http://hotwired.lycos.com/webmonkey/...ng/javascript/

As for ASP, yes it supports VBScript and JavaScript (as JScript) but if you're programming server-side in ASP you'll want to use VBScript probably.

As far as MASTERING javascript (or any other programming language), I guess that's up to you and how much time you're willing to devote to it.

In my somewhat limited experience, programming knowledge is only gained by experimenting with concepts on your own.

I'm happy to have a working knowledge in a couple of them and to try and learn ASP.NET.

I would like to have a copy of Alex's book, though...

    Good luck!

I had a website. It's been down for a while.

Once you've got the basics down, I'd recommend the JavaScript Bible by Danny Goodman. You can find all sorts of nifty things in there!
