    Controlling Pop up

Is it possible to make a pop up to show up only on web page once after user logs into a Windows NT workstation
and then bring up a specific web page?

For instance if I log onto my workstation and start up a specific web page the pop up would show up but not show up if I start another browser window with this specific web page. And if I close current browser window and start up another browser window for that specific page the pop up should not show up. It should only show up
once for each log on to the workstation.

So if I log off my Windows NT workstation and then log on then start the specific web page the pop up will show up once and only once per each workstation log on.

There are a couple of ways you can do this. Perhaps the easiest and most elegant is to change the NT logon script so that after logging on a window is opened in the default browser. This would require you to have direct access to the machine which I know isn't always the case. So...

You could write some code which uses a cookie to check if the person has already seen the popup that day. You can do this either on a web page using javascript or more easily and seamlessly in the background using ASP (It's an NT environment so I'm assuming you can use ASP!).

Since you posted on this forum I'm guessing you want to use javascript. There are loads of tutorials out there showing how to use cookies with javascript. Do a search on google and post back here if you get stuck.

    Good luck!

It would depend on whether you have a Guest type user, or separate users, because each user should have there own cookie folder. the only thing that comes to my mind would be to just create a normal cookie and set it to expire very soon; you cant use session cookies because once you close the window they would be lost. I dont think it's completely possible to do it the way you describe.

Edit: I do agree with what head8k said about WSH, if you have the knowledge to do so.

Thanks I did find something that will control pop up to just once a day using cookies but need one to control it to log in instead. Basically pop up window on a specific web page will show up once per log in to the NT workstation.
