    need some advice for jsp

Hi, I have been learning java for 1 year aprox, now we're learning jsp and will start with sql stuff soon. I would like to learn more stuff on my own since I feel like I haven't practiced enough, but I'm too shy to ask my teacher for new stuff to do. (That's why I'm asking this here annonymously).

Do you know good self-learning methods that would help me improve on my own?

pd: English is not my native-language so I apologize if there are any mistakes in what I wrote.

Best I can tell you if you have been working in Java is make a basic app that passes data around between forms and saves values in a database- maybe store them as integers and then pending what page you are on load those values and do some sort of calculation or something? idk possibilities are endless.

Why not do something that would also be fun?

How about creating a simple game. (Maybe you create a maze on the screen, then hide it, then let the user try to "solve" it, and then record how long it took them to solve it. But anything really simple where they can get a score.)

Then allow the user to save his score. You will record the score with the user's name in a DB table.

And then you respond back to the web page with a list of (say) the top 10 players and also the rank of the current user (even if it is not in the top 10).

This allows you to "show off" all your coding skills: JSP, SQL, HTML, CSS, JavaScript.

Oh...and there is nothing wrong with finding a game somewhere (that is, the HTML/CSS/JavaScript for a game) and then just using that in conjunction with JSP for the rest of it.

A pessimist sees the glass as half empty.
A realist drinks it no matter how much there is.

Thanks a lot! I will do this, it may take me some time, but it's exactly what I wanted, many thanks!
