    Why the includes?

You could start by not getting into scripting, includes, etc. before you have a basic, working page; the server side stuff only clouds the real issue at hand, namely a poor page structure. Besides, the chosen solution doesn't seem very logical (why not place all the necessary markup in one file, and use an include to import the text to be inserted?).

    N/a

Don't worry about that I think that is fine all I need is this to be fixed because I have tried for a long time and it will not work and I need the includes for when I change pages on my site the layout will be the same just content changes

As Ronald suggested you'd be better to step-back and make sure your basic page is set-up correctly.

Firstly, you need to add the appropriate doctype and then validate your html. Without this first step you'll be spending a lot of time not getting things to work.

You've currently got several errors and improperly nested elements, http://validator.w3.org/check?verbos...ashong.uni.cc/, which will leave browsers to take their best guess at how your page should appear.

Try sorting that out first and let us know how it goes.

Good start. Now finish the job.
