    css Template Trouble

    Hi,

    We are having some trouble with our website build and are hoping some one who is a little more css literate might be able to help us out.

    We are trying to make our website with the secretary.org platform by customizing their humii template. We know a little about css so have been able to change most things to what we want, but unfortunately there is just one thing we cant seem to fix/change.

    The front page has a slideshow as a default and we were hoping to change this to a image of our own choosing of the same size. We know we have to insert to image code somewhere, but whenever we think we have found the correct code that might disable the slideshow and then replace it with the image code, it either breaks something else in the website or just make it go white.

    Here is a link to the template folder with the css: http://depositfiles.com/files/dpamqt4d4 (it was slightly too big to attach)

    And here is our website for far with our changes:
    http://habitat-tapes.com

    We simply want the front page to have one static image instead of it rotating through our post images.

    Any help or guidance would be much appreciated

    Hello caitfor,
    You can remove that slideshow by deleting <div class="front-slideshow"> and all it's contents from your markup.

    You new image could be entered in it's place something like this -
    Code:
    <div id="content">
    		<img src="http://habitat-tapes.com/cms/files/cache/9.project.960x450_1.jpg" width="960" height="450" alt="description" />
    	<!--end content--></div>
    ...
    Your site has a lot of errors that should be fixed before you get much further along in development. Have a look at the links about validation in my signature line below. The validators can really help by finding invalid code for you.
    Validate often DURING development - Use it like a splelchecker | Debug during Development |Write it for FireFox, ignore IE
    Use the right DocType | Validate your markup | Validate your CSS | Why validating is good | Why tables are bad

    You have a lot of open div elements that need closed. You also seem to use paragraph tags a lot for things that are not paragraphs.

    Have a look at your markup like this. Notice the comments that tell where each div element is being closed.
    Code:
    <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd">
    <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" xml:lang="en" lang="en">
    	<head>
    		<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8"/>
    		<title>Habitat</title>
    		<link rel="stylesheet" href="http://habitat-tapes.com/cms/site/themes/humii/css/main.css" type="text/css" media="screen" />
    <script src="http://habitat-tapes.com/cms/site/js/jquery.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
    <script src="http://habitat-tapes.com/cms/system/plugins/displayers/slideshow/jquery.cycle.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
    <script src="http://habitat-tapes.com/cms/site/themes/humii/js/actions.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
    </head>
    <body>
    	<div id="wrapper">
    		<div id="header">
    			<div id="title">
    				<a href="http://www.habitat-tapes.com"><img src="../images/headerlogo.gif" alt="description" /></a>
    			<!--end title--></div>
    			<div id="menu">
    				<ul>
    					<li id="about"><a href="">About </a></li>
    					<li id="releases"><a href="">Releases</a></li>
    					<li id="news"><a href="">News</a></li>
    					<li id="downloads"><a href="">Downloads</a></li>
    					<li id="contact"><a href="">Contact</a></li>
    				</ul>
    			<!--end menu--></div>
    		<!--end header--></div>
    			<img src="../images/linebreak.gif" alt="description" />
    		<div id="content">
    			<img src="http://habitat-tapes.com/cms/files/cache/9.project.960x450_1.jpg" width="960" height="450" alt="description" />
    		<!--end content--></div>
    	<!--end wrapper--></div>

    Hi Excavator,

    Appreciate you taking the time to look at the code.

    I have a feeling we have already tried something similar to this unsuccessfully. But perhaps we just didn't do it quite right. I will follow your instructions and get back you about how it goes.

    Cheers!

    Awesome! Worked perfectly. We must have been taking to much out before when we tried a similar tactic.

    Thanks again for taking the time to have a look and we will make sure we validate and look into your other suggestions as well.

    Cheers

    Cait
