    Question floating footer appears in Firefox but NOT IE9? Why on earth?

    Hello Everyone

    I have made a floating footer but for some unknown reason it will only appear if i open the web page on firefox.

    I have tried it in IE9 but it does not appear.

    Any ideas? Could someone try the code on their IE?

    Hello samhor,
    Your #footer is positioned, not floating at all.

    This seems to be a double post as I don't see much different from your original post where I gave what I thought was a pretty accurate explanation of where your footer is and how to get it down to the bottom of the page where you want it.
    Validate often DURING development - Use it like a splelchecker | Debug during Development |Write it for FireFox, ignore IE
    Use the right DocType | Validate your markup | Validate your CSS | Why validating is good | Why tables are bad

    Yes i know but the floating footer does not work with the below at the start in iE9 but will in FF-
    Code:
    <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
    <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">
    I had to remove most of it and leave it with <!DOCTYPE html>

    It now works fine with the below in FF and IE9 now

    Code:
    div#footer {
    	position: fixed;
    	bottom: 10px;
    	left: 10px;
    	width: 815PX;
    	height: 50px;
    	font-family: Verdana, Geneva, sans-serif;
    	font-size: 10px;
    	font-weight: normal;
    	text-decoration: underline;
    	background-color: #666;
    Thanks for the help

    Transitional again?

    The DocType you've chosen, <!DOCTYPE html>, is an HTML5 DocType. Did you know that? Do you know why you're using it?

    Nope it was just a recommendation on a forum. I've take it out now and left it at <html>

    UPDATE--

    The code works in IE 9 and FF but i have since tried it on IE 8 and the footer appears just behind the navigation bar now so e.g. close to the top of the page instead of the bottom... Is some code amendments needed for IE8 ?
