    Why do you use frames in your markup? It's a very bad practice. See https://www.google.com/search?q=frames+are+bad

    Because i'm going to hand the site over to a friend who is not so good with computers. It made sense to put the site nav into a seperate frame, so that she won't have a chance to mess up the links etc.

    I'd recommend you to use a server side language like PHP or Server Side Includes to include the files in suitable locations or
