Creating a Bookmark this page button

I have a Wordpress page that I'm putting together where I've basically gutted a lot of the header and navigation out and put in my own custom HTML. The last thing that I'm having a problem with that is a necessity from the client is a Bookmark This Page button. I have it nested with my other social media buttons, and it works in Internet Explorer... but in no other browsers. How can I get one working that either does the "CTRL+D" keystroke upon the mouseclick or just plain works in Firefox, Chrome and Safari as well?

I apologize if this should be javascript or something else...

The only way to do it is with JavaScript and then you can only do it in some browsers as you are attempting to call something already built into the browser (in a different way in each browser) and not all browsers allow access.

The closest I was ever able to get is described on http://www.felgall.com/jstip77.htm (along with a link to a working example and a copy of the code that works for IE, Firefox, and Opera).

Don't forget to start your JavaScript code with "use strict"; which makes it easier to find errors in your code.
