    html form data manipulation

This is a homework assignment but I don't want the work done for me. I just want to know how to find the answer. What keywords should I google.

I have to use only html and maybe css and find a way for a given form to take any input and handle the input and produce output. ideas of how it would work is adding 2 numbers together or reversing a string. (can't use javascript or c++ ect.)

Again, please don't give me code, just how I can go about finding a way to solve this.

HTML and CSS can't do this:

"adding 2 numbers together or reversing a string"

You need some kind of backend (PHP, ASP, C++ etc..) or client side (JavaScript, etc...) way of doing that.

    Thanks for the feedback.

I have gotten clarification on this assignment. I can use a backend programming language. I don't have more than a beginners knowledge on java and c++. Any suggestions appreciated.

By your original question, if you can use PHP, you can take a look at:

    http://php.net/manual/en/ref.strings.php

that might be overwhelming but, it's string functions

    http://www.php.net/manual/en/languag...arithmetic.php

    That's the math you mentioned.

    here's the same in C++
    http://www.cplusplus.com/doc/tutorial/operators/
    http://www.cplusplus.com/reference/string/string/

I've never worked in either C++ or Java so...

I commend you for not wanting the code done for you. Most ppl come to forums with hw assignments and want it done for them. Great job!

I will however give you an idea of the process.

Basically you would create a form, give the form inputs ids and names and then pass the values of the form inputs to an action page. The action page would then handle your math calculations or string concatenations and output the results in any number of ways...ie a list or table if needed.
