    wordpress beginner - pointers, suggestions?

    Hi,
I am trying to build my website using wordpress as a content management system. They problem is I don't know where to begin.

I have a website built now and all I want is to be able to have the content (just text) of my website be updatable by my co-workers.

Does anyone know of any good tutorials or have any suggestions of where to begin? Do I just download a them and edit it so that it is my own?

I can't seem to find an easy tutorial to do this.

    Your help is greatly appreciated!

    Thanks!

The best way to have your co-workers add and edit content on their own to a Wordpress site is to register them as users on the sidebar.

If you go to the Wordpress Admin area (http://yoursite.com/wp-admin) and log-in, you'll see the "Users" panel on the left-hand side. From here you can add users and designate them with different permissions. Administrators have all the permissions, but if you just want them to be only able to add/edit posts, you could use the "Editor" permission for example.

    Also check out this link:

Which will tell you everything you need to know and is full of great information.

    Hope this helps!

It has been a while since I played around with Wordpress, but I think this multiple user thing is native functionality for that package so you wouldn't need to hack the code at all to do this.

You would maintain the admin control, but you can (I believe) add users with posting privelages. Not just commenting privelages, but actual topic posting privelages.

It should be pretty easy to add users via the admin control section of a running Wordpress installation.

Most web hosts will have an automatic installation option for common scripts like Wordpress. All you have to do is log in to your hosting control panel and run their installer to get the basic site going.

If your host doesn't have an automatic script installer then yes, you just download a copy of the script and follow the installation instructions from the Wordpress website.

Before you install the script you should back up your existing files somewhere else so that nothing important is overwritten.

Then you find or make a theme you like for your site and start adding content.

    It's usually a good idea to start out with this at the VERY TOP of your CSS: * {border:0;margin:0;padding:0;}

It's super easy to install WordPress. Create the database, copy the files to your server, and run the config. This is a good place to start.
