CSS & Javascript (CSS gets canceled??)

I have a CSS hover on an image which increases the images opacity to 1. I have javascript using JQuery so when you hover over a different image it will increase the opacity of the same image the CSS hover increases.

Problem is now the CSS hover doesn't work after you hover over the image using javascript??

Is that typical that javascript will override the CSS ??
