    Lots of problems on my blog

    I have two separate issues on my blog.

    First, a CSS problem. I have a blog with three other friends, and I'm the only one who knows anything about coding. They copied some template code from who-knows-where and it works in IE and Firefox but not in the browser I use, Safari. I worked for a couple hours on it and couldn't get it to work.

    Here's part of the CSS they copied (not sure, but I think the problem is in here):

    Code:
    /************** SIDEBARS *****************/

    #SR { width: 293px; margin: 0 30px 0 0; float: right; clear:right}
    #SR2 { width: 293px; height:100%; margin: 0 30px 0px 0; padding: 0 0 10px 0; float: right; background: #b2e4f5 url(http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_XByc9SCisZM/SdsfdIWWjEI/AAAAAAAACCI/iAgzZ0b-bNM/s1600/sr2.jpg) no-repeat left top; clear:right}
    #SR3 { width: 293px; margin: 0 30px 0 0; padding: 0 0 10px 0; float: right; clear:right}

    /************** WIDGETS *****************/

    .search { background: #ffffff url(http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_XByc9SCisZM/SdsfeZ_0IqI/AAAAAAAACDo/1T1qvp7YjxU/s1600/rssbg.png) no-repeat left top; right: 0px; padding-top:20px; overflow: hidden;}
    /**/ *html .SR .search  { height: 1%;} /**/
    .search form { width: 245px; padding: 0px; border: 1px solid #636161; background: #333333; }
    .search fieldset { overflow: hidden; height: 1%;  }
    .search input { float: left; margin-right: 2px; background: url(http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_XByc9SCisZM/SdsiMOiZUuI/AAAAAAAACEA/S13uEai_EqA/s1600/search.gif) no-repeat; border: none; padding: 5px 3px 5px 0px; width: 145px; color:#666;}
    .search button { float: left; background: url(http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_XByc9SCisZM/Sdsibd7DRdI/AAAAAAAACEI/5C-DaMgCKs8/s1600/searchbutton.gif) no-repeat; width: 26px; border: none; cursor: pointer; text-indent: -1000em; }
    .syn ul { margin: 10px 0px; padding-top:20px; padding-left:10px;}
    .syn li { background: url(http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_XByc9SCisZM/SdsfeRzyWgI/AAAAAAAACDg/WErG9Wr9sxM/s1600/rss.png) no-repeat left center; margin: 0px 5px 0px 0px; padding: 3px 0px 0px 15px; list-style-type: none; color:#ffcc66; display: inline; font: bold 14px/14px 'Arial'; letter-spacing: -1px;}
    .syn li a, .syn li a:hover, .syn li a:visited {color:#fff; text-decoration:none; font-weight: bold;}
    There is supposed to be a sidebar on the right side. It looks fine in IE and Firefox, but in Safari the sidebar is gone and all the content in it is pushed below the posts, as if I had floated the posts and put a "clear" style in the sidebar.

    The blog can be viewed at http://ourlifesavior.blogspot.com.

    The second problem I'm having has to do with Flash embed. That works fine in Safari, but isn't showing up in IE or Firefox. Here's the code I'm using for the embed:

    Code:
    <object width="200" height="40" type="application/x-shockwave-flash">
    <param value="http://www.freewebs.com/ourlifesavior/media.swf?url=http://www.freewebs.com/ourlifesavior/sociallyacceptable.mp3" name="movie"/>
    <param value="transparent" name="wmode"/>
    <embed width="200" src="http://www.freewebs.com/ourlifesavior/media.swf?url=http://www.freewebs.com/ourlifesavior/sociallyacceptable.mp3" height="40" wmode="transparent" type="application/x-shockwave-flash"></embed>
    </object>
    It shows up fine in Safari, but in Firefox it shows a blank box that when right-clicked says, "movie not loaded." In IE there is just a blank box (no context-menu). I had it working in IE last night, but it wasn't working this morning for some reason :\

    Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

    See if you can fix some of your validation errors first. You have 999 of them: Validator

    There are a few CSS parsing errors too:
    Code:
    .menu .current_page_item a, .menu .current_page_item a:visited, .menu .current_page_item a:hover { background: #000000;) repeat-x bottom; color:#fff; }
    Code:
    .p-time { background: url(background: url() no-repeat right bottom; position: absolute; left: -70px; top: 5px; width: 50px; padding-bottom: 10px; }
    Code:
    #main-wrapper {
    width: 100%; position: relative;
    /**/ * html #main-wrapper { width: 99%;} /**/
    }
    Code:
    .post-body img { padding: 5px; max-width: 100%; }
    Code:
    .footer p.theme a, .footer p.theme a:visited, .footer p.theme a:hover { color:#6c8e9d; text-decoration: underline;}
    }
    For the flash, use SWFObject instead. It is a lot easier and a better method.

    Thanks. Perhaps Safari is more strict on the CSS parsing errors. I use SWFObject in my websites, but I didn't think to use it in the blog, so thanks for making me think of that.

    Hmm... still not working in Firefox or IE, still working fine in Safari. Even after changing over to SWFObject.

    Not sure if this will lead you in the right direction or not, but here's something I've found: If I copy/paste your source code into a new file on my computer and open it with Firefox the mp3 and swf work as it is (pulling everything off your server). It doesn't work in IE6 however.

    But, if I download a copy of your media.swf and headphones.mp3 files and change the code to point to my local copy, it works in IE6 also.

    The only difference when I view it locally is that I'm not getting any of the Google friend stuff, so I'd start looking there for your problem.

    BTW, you still have a lot of validation errors.

    Okay thanks for looking into that for me. I didn't mess with the validation yet but I'll get some of the errors fixed now. I'll try getting rid of the Google friends stuff and see if it works.
