    Equal height columns design question

    http://gmhcd.awardspace.com/test.htm

    I've just managed this attempt at equal height columns, a fluid central column, and a footer that never rises above the bottom of the screen.

    Could someone possibly explain to me why the conditional IE comment is needed, i.e. why does IE7, compared to Opera 9.23 (the only things I've tested this on so far), needs to have 0 padding on the left and right columns? And also, which is the correct way?

    Is the fact that Opera 9.23 only redraws the webpage properly when its width is changed, and not its height, some sort of `standard`, recognised bug?

    Ta, aphw.

    I'm sorry, I don't have enough time to answer your question by looking your layout, though I believe http://www.bonrouge.com/3c-hf-fluid.php is a much better layout which doesn't use any complex negative margin hacks, like in your code.
    Code:
    margin-bottom:-3283px;
    padding-bottom:3333px;
    Indeed it's neat(with no inline styles) and well explained.

    Thank you for that link. Although, personally I think I prefer the negative margin method since it requires a bit less maintenance.
