    z-index only works on elements that are positioned. Try to add "position:relative;" to every element that you're giving a z-index.

    Don't forget the ";" at the end of "position:relative;" !

    Browsers can be quite forgiving when it comes to that, but only if there isn't a line following the faulty one.
    Code:
    .blah {
    	background-color:red;
    	color:white
    	text-decoration:underline;
    }
    This results in black text without underline. However,
    Code:
    .blah {
    	background-color:red;
    	color:white
    }
    does result in white text. It's one of these strange perks for which I have no explanation for...

    But anyway, glad to help!

    You do not require the semi-colon on the last attribute value, but it is good coding practice to place one there.
