    Textareas blinking problems

    Hi,

    when I have an embedded youtube video and forms in the same page the cursor in the fields blink fast and nasty.

    That happens with IE and Firefox but it is ok with Opera.

    If you try the code below you can see how the cursor in the text area behaves.
    Do you have any hints how to fix that? Do you see also the problem or is it only me?

    Code:
    <html>
    <body>

    <form>
    First name: <input type="text" name="firstname">
    </form>

    <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/wreP8FMupyM&hl=en"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/wreP8FMupyM&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>

    </body>
    </html>
    Thanks

    Hi comopasta,

    I have tested your code in FF, Safari, and Opera and I do not see any fast blinking in the test box. In fact, everything appears as I would expect it to from the code above.

    Here is a preview of your code http://drewsdesigns.com/codingforums...comopasta.html

    Regards,

    Drew

    Hi, Drew

    Thanks so much for checking it. Then it might be my computer (I have XP). I'll try to test it with another machine tomorrow and see how it goes there.

    Regards.

    Code:
    the test page is a bit screwed up tho it has 3 </html> and 2 <html>
    Thanks a lot for pointing that out, I didnt notice that.

    Test page has been updated and errors corrected.

    Still, I am seeing no crazy blinking, however, I am on Mac OS x Tiger 10.4

    Displaying it validly takes that problem away...
    Code:
    <!DOCTYPE html
       PUBLIC "—//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN"
       "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd">
    <html xml:lang="en"
     xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">
     <head>
       <title>Object &amp; Form</title>
       <meta http-equiv="Content-Type"
         content="text/html; charset=utf-8"/>
       <style type="text/css">
       fieldset {
         border: 0;
         font: 0.814em/1.8 'lucida sans unicode', 'lucida grande', verdana, sans-serif;
       }
     </head>
     <body>
       <form action="" method="get">
         <fieldset>
           <label for="firstname">First name:</label> <input type="text" id="firstname" name="firstname"/>
         </fieldset>
       </form>
       <object width="425" height="355"
         type="application/x-shockwave-flash"
         data="http://www.youtube.com/v/wreP8FMupyM&hl=en">
         <param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/wreP8FMupyM&hl=en"/>
       </object>
     </body>
    </html>
    Edit: Edited to reflect the below. Can't ever remember that.

    YES!!! Thanks a lot. Now it blinks normally.
    I only had the problem that IE wouldn't show the video. To get it solved I had to change the:

    <param name="url"...

    to:

    <param name="movie"...

    And the it goes fine with Opera, FF and IE.

    Thanks again!

    Aaarrrgggg.

    Using <param name="wmode" value="transparent"> screws up the cursor again. And I need the wmode because otherwise a blindup effect is broken without it

    I've checked and it validates with that param but still shows up broken
