    header div problems

    This may be completely stupid, but I haven't had this situation before and I can't think of how to do this. I'll try and simplify.

    I have a header image that is 700px that will be centered in a #header div that has 100% width. The backgound of the #header needs to be a different image on either side to match up with where it connects to the header image. Make sense? Here's the code that I tried ... which doesn't work correctly.

    Code:
    #header{ width: 100%; height: 163px; }

    #lside{ background-color: #b5aa74; width: 50%; height: 163px; float: left; margin: 0; padding: 0; }

    #rside{ background-color: #a88585; width: 50%; height: 163px; float: right; margin: 0; padding: 0; }

    <div id="header">
      <div id="lside"><img src="head1.jpg"></div>
      <div id="rside"><img src="head2.jpg"</div>
    </div>
    Basically I am splitting the header into 2 equal parts and cutting my main header image in half to put on either side. I really don't think this is the right way to do this. Anyone have any ideas?
