    More IE7 woes. . .

    I have this page I'm working on located at
    http://moderntimes.com/tmp
    it works in Safari, Netscape, and FF, but in that lousy IE7, there's an ugly white strip across the bottom. I'm at my wits end, God I sure hate Microsoft. . . Any suggestions?

    I dont thinkits IE7, its your coding.

    This is your code: I highlighted the problem areas in red.

    Code:
    <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN"
        "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
    <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">

    <head>
    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=ISO-8859-1" />
    <meta name="description" content="Edward G. Robinson"/>
    <meta name="keywords" content="Edward G. Robinson, Blacklist, HUAC, Film Noir, Classic Movies, Classic Films"/>
    <title>Rico's End</title>
    <link rel="icon" href="/favicon.png" type="png"/>
    <link rel="stylesheet" href="splash_horz.css" type="text/css"/>
    </head>

    <body>

    <div id="logo"><img src="eddie.jpg" alt="- Little Ceasar- Edeard G. Robinson" width="600" height="369" border="0"/></a></div>

    <div id="wrapper">

    </div>

    </div>

    <div id="navcontainer">
    <ul id="navlist">
    <!--<li id="active"><a href="#" id="current">Item one</a></li>-->
    <li><a href="http://moderntimes.com/egr/biography.html">Biography</a></li>
    <li><a href="http://moderntimes.com/egr/filmography.html">Filmography</a></li>
    <li><a href="http://moderntimes.com/egr/film_images.html">Images</a></li>
    <li><a href="http://www.moderntimes.com/egr/bibliography.html">Bibliography</a></li>

    </ul>
    </div>

    <div id="bottom"><!--<img src="bottom_strip.gif" alt="bottom_strip" width="600" height="39"/>-->
    <a href="mailto:michael180@mac.com">copyright &copy; 1995-2007
    moderntimes | all rights reserved</a></div>
    </div> <!--close wrapper--> </body> </html>
    1.) Your closing with a </a> command but you dont have a <a href> start command
    2.) You have 2 </div> closing div tags that shouldnt be there.

    fix these

    No that doesn't do it. I fixed it, and the page validates as XHTML 1.0 Transitional. I wonder why if works fine in the other browsers? But thank for responding.

    I copied this from your page again...Remove what is highlighted in red. Add what is highlighted in green.

    Code:
    <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN"
        "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
    <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">

    <head>
    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=ISO-8859-1" />
    <meta name="description" content="Edward G. Robinson"/>
    <meta name="keywords" content="Edward G. Robinson, Blacklist, HUAC, Film Noir, Classic Movies, Classic Films"/>
    <title>Rico's End</title>
    <link rel="icon" href="/favicon.png" type="png"/>
    <link rel="stylesheet" href="splash_horz.css" type="text/css"/>
    </head>

    <body>

    <div id="logo"><img src="eddie.jpg" alt="- Little Ceasar- Edeard G. Robinson" width="600" height="369" border="0"/></div>

    <div id="wrapper">

    </div>

    <div id="navcontainer">
    <ul id="navlist">
    <!--<li id="active"><a href="#" id="current">Item one</a></li>-->
    <li><a href="http://moderntimes.com/egr/biography.html">Biography</a></li>
    <li><a href="http://moderntimes.com/egr/filmography.html">Filmography</a></li>
    <li><a href="http://moderntimes.com/egr/film_images.html">Images</a></li>
    <li><a href="http://www.moderntimes.com/egr/bibliography.html">Bibliography</a></li>
    </ul>
    </div>

    <div id="bottom"><!--<img src="bottom_strip.gif" alt="bottom_strip" width="600" height="39"/>-->
    <a href="mailto:michael180@mac.com">copyright &copy; 1995-2007
    moderntimes | all rights reserved</a></div>
    </div>
     <!--close wrapper--> </body> </html>
    You removed 1 of the </div> tags after #wrapper but you still need to remove the other. Then you removed the </div> tag before the closing body tag that needed to be there.

    After that we will see if its your CSS.

    The reason the whitespace appears is because your closing the #wrapper tag with nothing inside it. IE7 assumes that text might eventually go here so it automatically makes room for the extra height needed for text such as "j" and "p" and "g" and "y" since part of the text goes below the baseline.

    Yes trigger, that worked. I wonder why the page validated? Anyway, thank you very much for your help.

    It validated because you actually closed all the tags properly, you just didnt put the #wrapper </div> tag in the right spot.

    and your welcome,

    FYI your CSS fails because you have a margin-top of 5px. You cant have that. make is 0.
