    Need some icons.

I've checked out various captcha scripts, and like a lot of other people, I find them insecure, hard to use, and unattractive, so I've decided to write one that overcomes those flaws. I figured using identifiable images is the best way to get around spambots and still by easy for people to use. I need to find a collection of images that are free for anyone to use, not too large, and of the png and/or gif format. Can anyone help on this?

    Thanks.

I was hoping someone had already done a little research along these lines and could point me to a specific resource, 50 or 100 images that I could put with a select box, so people could identify them.

Well, you would be the best judge of what you are looking for as to type of icons, sizes you want to use, colors, etc.. The links should get you to a quick source of what you want.

DrDos. You probably won't have much luck finding such a large set of common images, that also fit the aesthetic criteria I'm sure you are going for. You can do advanced google searches using extreme specificity now, by specific sizes, even by a specified color, but of course all the ones you like will have licensing issues of some kind as you didn't create them. Your best bet is to make do with some of the prior suggestion for testing, or find an icon site you like( there are plenty of free use ones), then in your final product pony out a little cash for images that do meet your additional criteria.

I'm really just hoping that someone will point me to a resource. I know about using search, I just don't want to spend hours searching for images for such a small project, if someone else knows an answer.

Most excellent! I can edit the svg files and have Imagemagick make them into pngs. Just what I wanted. Thank you.

PS: I've got the files converted, now working out a coding scheme for using thing.
