Not sure what you mean by "nothing works" as I suspect all of those can do the job. As long as you realize you're scaling up and to a different aspect ratio, here you go:

I was beginning to think that you cannot make a pic bigger and that you can only resize to make it smaller, thank you very much for the help, mind telling me which software you used to to do this please?

I used paint.net which is a free program to enlarge to 940px wide. I kept the aspect ratio, but I made it a PNG since I made the edges transparent to blend in to your background. Could just trim that part off if you didn't need the white edges.

One is just with the transparent background [edges]. Second the transparent edges were cropped which gave me a 940 x 293 pixels.

These are great graphics editors, but I like paint.net over most of my expensive editors for the small and quick jobs:

Your welcome. Just added my two cents to show you what some of the free graphics editors can do. I have some expensive stuff, but if you don't use it everyday, you forget where and what some of the tools do. lol

You got anything free which does "batch" resizing where you can set BOTH width and height as you require?

Thanks you very much Major Payne. Those sites are terrific. I have been using an older version of Photo Paint that works quite well. It will take a while to investigate each, but from what I have seen so far, they look like really great tools. Thanks again for your input.

Not needed to use it in a while, but IrfanView had a lot of really good batch conversion options, such as dimension adjustments, file conversions etc. It is completely free too.
