    copyright issues

My client a small charity has an image that they want to use as a logo, but Ido not feel right abour using it, as the image has a name printed on the bottom, so I guess it is copyrighted to that person. Is it illegal to use someones art work as a logo and also is it illegal if there name is still intact on the image. Would be grateful if anyone knows, the internet is a minefield and I cant find anything this specific.

did you ask your client about this? maybe the logo was made by the person whos name is on it for your client, or your client already ask permision to use it.

    best regards

Yes, thanks, I found out that they do not have permission to use it.

then is ok from your point of view, they can ask for for permision or they can choose another logo.

they asked me to get them another image, but everyone wants payment, I dont know any free sites for drawings. What about if I added filters to the image to change it, is it still copyrighted then?

    yes, is still copyrighted.

but you can find some free logo or tools to make yourself a logo using google and using as keyword something relevant, for example 'free logo'.

i never use them but take a look at this links:
    http://www.logomaker.com/
    http://www.logosnap.com/
    http://cooltext.com/
    http://www.logoease.com/

or you can ask for links in the Graphics and Multimedia discussions forum
http://codingforums.com/graphics-multimedia-discussions/, they know more about this then i could tell you.
The last alternative is to post a requests, and explain why you can't pay, on one of the Web Project forums, not sure if you can find somebody but give it a try.

Edit: as i said, i didn't use none of the links before but i just tried now. Seems not interesting all of them except cooltext

    good luck and best regards
