    Adsense experiences

    Hi,
Does anyone have any experiences with adsense they wouldn't mind sharing? I'm thinking about signing up and any advice would be appreciated. Also, got any tips to make my site more 'adsense friendly'?
    Thanks,
    Dan

I use Adsense on a site that gets about 200-300 hits per day.

It takes me about 6 months to build up to my $100+ checks.
And they do send the checks as promised ...

So, I figure I get about 5-20 clicks per day (not many, I guess).

They also send a statement at the end of the year for your income taxes.
    (you must claim the income)

Use the text ads (not the graphic ads).

I've noticed that it looks at words (content) on the site. So you need
to change things every now and then, or you get the same ads.

The words in your <title> are important also. Try different key words
in the title ... see if your ads come-up differently.

Here's how I placed my ads (vertical on the left side) ...

I'm rather impressed on how professional Google handles their system.

Thanks for sharing Any others? Also I heard if Google 'red flags' your site and says you have invalid clicks, you have to give back all the money you earned. Is this true?

There are several threads discussing Adsense

They get a thumbs down from me.

Hmm, I see. Thanks. I can't access the first thread. So, if they say your clicks are invalid, you loose that months earnings or all your earnings or what?
    Thanks,
    Dan

I haven't heard about the invalid clicks ... but I assume if there are too
many clicks from one IP address, they think that someone is abusing the
    system.

If someone goes in and deliberately tries to sabotage your adsense,
I think they would investigate the situation and realize what happened.

That could happen with any ad-click system ... they must have a way
    to deal with troublemakers.

So what about earnings? Can they actually take them ALL back?

They don't take anything back. They just cancel your account and keep any remaining balances you might have. And they don't investigate. They didn't in my case. They sent me an email notice accusing me of clicking on the ads myself and said they have cancelled my account and will be keeping the remaining balance in my account. When I replied back to them several times they replied back once and just repeated that they cancelled my account and that is the end of the matter.

Ok, thanks for the clarification. I just didn't want to earn a lot and then have to pay it back for having 'invalid clicks'. Oh, and what other good alternatives are there to adsense?
    Cheers,
    Dan

I have been using adSense for a couple of years now and only once had an issue where they said someone was clicking on the ads too many times. Obviously not enough of an issue for them to close my account. I get monthly payments from them all of which arrive without any problems.

Other similar services I have tried previously all had problems I would think very carefully about any of the alternatives as they are likely to be a lot worse than Google at shutting down your account and keeping the money at the first excuse.

I agree with felgall, all pay-per-click services have problems ...

I just think Google has the better reputation.

To make the most money, come up with an idea nobody else has
thought of yet. Now why didn't I think of "myspace", or "ebay"?

There has got to be more good ideas.

They always ban me or decline my requests.. very annoying; seeing as they don't give you a reason

Try reading through their conditions. Either the subject of your site or something that your site is doing will be listed in the conditions as being unacceptable. Once you find the condition that your site is not meeting then you will be able to decide whether to make the changes to your site that are needed to meet the conditions.
