Accepting online payments, your experiences?
I'm trying to decide on the best way to accept payments online, and I figured that many of my fellow CodingForums members will have experience in this. I'm looking to set up an online shop, probably making 3-5 sales a week initially (looks tiny, but one has to be realistic) each of around £10 - £20 (GBP).
It's worth noting that although I plan to be accepting international payments, my bank account is based in the UK.
I have written and implemented a shop before which uses PayPal to checkout, with a slightly lower number of sales, but around the same average price. PayPal is okay... users don't need an account and the instant payment notification is helpful for integrating info about the orders with my shopping cart system, but I'm concerned by the many reports I've heard of people's accounts being closed down for no apparent reason.
I've looked at Merchant Accounts, but these seem very expensive for the volume of payments I'd be accepting, in fact the 40p or so PayPal takes looks good in comparison.
What experiences have you all had with your own checkout systems? Does anyone have experience of other services, such as nochex?
