What do you think of my website?

    Hi forum.

I have read a few posts and was very suprised at the excellent feedback provided by members here.

I am a newly formed member for this reason. Please take a look at my website www.blue-ice.co.uk and tell me what you think.

Any advice on how to improve it would be greatly appreciated.

If anyone knows the best way for me to promote my website then please give me a few tips.

    Best Regards.

    Just a quick look.

    1. Take the splash screen off, it's doing nothing practical
    2. Center align the main site, on my screen res 1280 x 1024, everything is squashed up in the top left corner and have loads of wasted space everywhere else
    3. Take the stupid no right click off, if does nothing and is pointless again
    4. No doctype
    5. Two body tags
    6. If you're going to use css, use css all the way through the page, not just in odd parts
    7. Make sure your code validates ( http://validator.w3.org/ )

Thank you for the valid points stated.

The centre alignment of my website is something I have meant to do for a while. It will be so shortly.

No right click - I am aware of this. Again somrthing to be rectified.

    Anything you liked?!!

    Hi,

There's a lot of things I liked... But most of the times you'll have to expect people to say what they don't like, which is the best way for you to progress So here is what I liked, the color, the simplicity of the design, the content is precise from what I read (but sorry didn't had much time to read the entire site).

I second Nightfire on his critics and I would add that:
-the "home" graphic should not be down the pages, but rather up (so that the user doesn't have to scroll down the page to click on it).
-it's personnal but I don't like when I click on a contact and that it opens outlook or whatever... A bit of scripting and CDONTS (or whatever) would add a lot more professionality to your site.
-in the contact page, when you click on the "back" button you actually don't go "back but are redirect to the index (home) which is a bit disturbing in terms of how your user get a representation of your site's space.
-the color of your links should be different... it really looks like "default" settings and this other blue doesn't match with the blue you're using for the rest of your typos (I'm thinking here in terms of harmony). Same for the link once he has been clicked.
-That would be better if the title of your pages always contained "Blue Ice Inspiration Ltd" and then the subtitle of the page. If you have many windows opened your site's name doesn't appear anymore. For example that should be like that: "Blue Ice Inspiration Ltd" is the title of your index.htm page, and if the user clicks on a link, that would be good if the title was like: "Blue Ice Inspiration Ltd/Content Security"

I guess that's all I had to say... Good luck

Thank you for your direction Bouchel.

I agree totally with the comment on page title. I'll do that right away.

As for the contact (Outlook opening) This was the only way I knew to code it at the time. I have however posted http://www.codingforums.com/showthre...threadid=22262 this regarding my coding needs and troubles. If you know how to help me here then please do.

I would also like to thank Nightfire for the good points and errors spotted. I have scrapped the splash screen and also added a doc type. The Validator was extremely helpful but made my 10 minute job an hour job!

    Regards

I very rarely say what I like on sites, as usually the bits I do like end up being all over the place on the site and just ruins the whole thing

I'm working on the formmail, and should work transparently when it's done, should be up on my site later on tonight

I finally got a chance to look over your site as you suggested. And, yes, I do like it very much. A very clean look and feel, as I see it. I do, however, get an error -- JS, line 109 char 37... Is it just on my end? I'm running IE 5.something.... LOL....

    STU

ps.... I'd like a look at that formmail script. I know that it will be useful, coming from Night fire.

Did you solve that problem thanx to Nightfire solutions or do you still need help with your form's infos sent to you by email? If you still need help, I'll just need to know if you can use ASP pages where you are hosted. Then I could give some help.

However, the best thing to do with such a question is:
-choose a language (PHP, ASP, .NET, JSP etc...) and then post your question, giving as much details as you can on what you want to achive in the appropriate section of codingforums. You'll get help for sure, and if not very usefull links. I would recommend you using PHP or ASp since there are a lot of people helping here with those two ones. Good luck.

Nothing as yet regarding the form. I have no experience with Php Asp and the other languages therefore my options are limited. Can it be done simply in javascript?

Just adding on, if anyone else wants to use it, don't copy Stuarts form as he'd be getting all your emails You'll need to go to http://blinded.org.uk/mailit/signup.php
